Downtown merchant event to celebrate October as National Book Month

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Laura Scriven for the information in this story.)

October is National Book Month and several downtown merchants have partnered to encourage students to read.

Starting Oct. 1 to Oct. 26, elementary school children can stop by Culture Creations at 105 S. Main St. to collect a book donated by The Friends of Chelsea Library, hich they will turn into a 3-D book report or diorama.

The children can also go to USArtQuest at 18650 W Old US Hwy 12 to get six donated sheets of decorative paper to help them create the project. Once their project is completed, we ask that they return to Culture Creations with their book to receive a $5 coupon to be used in one of the participating stores.

The books will then be displayed throughout town at the participating stores.

On Oct. 26, photos of the books will be posted on the Culture Creations Facebook page and shared to various other Chelsea Facebook pages for the town to enjoy the fantastic work of our young people.

There will also be a $50 gift card awarded to one participant decided upon by the store owners.
Participating stores are:

  • Culture Creations
  • The Find
  • Kitty Face
  • The Potting Shed
  • The Garden Mill
  • Secret Crisis Comics
  • Vintage Barn
  • Bumbles
  • USArtQuest
  • Reed’s Barber Shop
  • Serendipity
