Electrical loads redistributed for center portion of Chelsea

Chelsea logo(After getting reports of brown outs in Chelsea Tuesday afternoon, I asked City Manager John Hanifan for any tips or suggestions he might have to get through the remainder of this hot, hot week ahead.)

Early Wednesday morning, the Chelsea Electric Department redistributed the electrical load at the Garfield sub-station, which feeds the center third of the city.

As of noon today, there have been no reports of any brown-outs or any demand issues even though it’s already 90 degrees, said John Hanifan, Chelsea city manager.

Here’s want he suggested:

“Because unusually high temperatures are expected this week, please limit unnecessary electric use during peak periods of the day,” says Chelsea City Manager John Hanifan.

“Try to keep air conditioning units at a moderate setting and turn off all lights and equipment that are not critical or in current use,” he says.

Hanifan suggested monitor the city’s website or its office outage line — 475-1771, option 2 — for information on known outages.

Between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays contact the City Offices to report an outage at 475-1771.

To report an outage after hours, contact the Chelsea Police Department at 475-9122.
