Erik Koseck of Chelsea finished the Mt Brighton League Divisional Championships  season in first place overall as a member of the Saline-Chelsea Ski Team.

Other than being disqualified in the first race due to losing a ski right out of the start shack, Koseck had a perfect season, winning every race in both slalom and giant slalom.

This qualifies him for the Southeast Michigan Ski League championship, which takes place at Mt.  Holly on Feb 18.

The divisional championships took place on Feb. 6 and the slalom was in the morning.

Scoring for the girls was Nikki Dillmann in 16th place, Anna Mueller in 36th, Chelsea Bachran in 37th and Elizabeth Johnson in 39th. The girls team placed 8th overall.

On the boys’ side, Erik Koseck took 1st place, Mason Kipley was in 37th and Christian Harrison was 54th. A bad fall for Caden Faupel meant that the boys did not have enough finishers to place as a team.

The giant slalom race took place in the afternoon. On the boys’ team, Koseck again finished on top, with Kipley in 49th place. Faupel fell on his first run, but was able to complete that run, finishing in 59th. But the snow snakes were out again, and Christian Harrison was unable to complete the first run, leaving the boys team out of the running.

The girls were led by Dillmann, who finished in 19th place, followed by Johnson tied for 28th, Emily Hornberger in 41st and Sydney Collins in 44th.

The team’s next competition is at the Regional race at Alpine Valley on Feb 13. This is the only qualifying event for the State Finals, which take place at Boyne Highlands on Feb. 24.
