Faith in Action asking residents to save paper bags and donate them

With the advent of single-stream recycling, Faith in Action (FIA) no longer has access to the thousands of brown paper bags needed to maintain operations, which our friends at Western Washtenaw Recycling Authority saved for us.

Purchasing bags would be cost prohibitive, says Nancy Paul, director of FIA, who is asking residents to begin saving their brown paper bags and delivering them to FIA House, at 603 S. Main St. on the campus of Chelsea Community Hospital.

The brown paper bags can be dropped off on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9 a.m. – 7 p.m.

“This would be a good project for the youngsters, to fold and organize the family’s bags, and to collect from neighbors,” she said in a press release.

“Some of our congregational friends will be collecting on site, so you can also check at church for a place to bring the bags,” she said.

FIA has been filling an average of 125 food orders each month, needing 5-6 bags each time, and then the Clothing Room shoppers, about 300 each month, need 3 bags each.

Total needs can top 1,500 bags, she said.
