Faith in Action will host its annual Community Christmas Dinner on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, at 1 p.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church.
The dinner is free to anyone in the area who would enjoy a traditional Christmas dinner, but might be celebrating with family on alternate dates or might have no one locally with whom to celebrate.
The church is at 1515 S. Main St., next door to McDonald’s.
“It’s a great opportunity to grab a friend and celebrate in a joyous and communal way,” says Nancy Paul, FIA director, in a press release.
This marks close to 20 years that head chef Ken Tony has taken charge of the volunteer crew who puts on the meal.
Faith in Action provides all the food and if they wish, attendees are asked to bring a salad or dessert.
“We couldn’t do this without Ken,” says Paul. “He recognized a long time ago that so many people, especially older people, frequently end up celebrating Christmas a day before or a day after the actual date because extended families have so many diverse obligations.”
She says, “Sometimes families get a deeper appreciation of the holiday by celebrating over food with a large group. We can always use kids to make sure their elders have enough coffee or dessert.”
If you’d like to attend or volunteer, call 475-3305, so the folks at FIA can get a head count for dinner, and an idea of the number of available volunteers.
