Chelsea Farmer’s Supply at 122 Jackson St. will stay open during the nearby construction work that is expected to begin soon.

The city is taking down The Livery Building and replacing it with a parking lot as well as extending the existing Longworth alley between Main and Middle Streets and paving it to Jackson Street.

“We hope it will affect our business positively,” said Greg Raye, who owns Chelsea Farmers Supply with his wife, H.K. Leonard. “I hope the city is sensitive to our business and remembers that it is only accessible on Jackson Street.”

Right now Chelsea Farmers Supply is having a big sale on bird supplies-feeders, houses and baths with 15-percent off any ceramic ones including the heated bird baths. There is a sale on mulch, too.

“Our motto is unique and useful stuff since 1926,” said Raye. “That includes just about everything for wild bird needs, pets, and your lawn and garden.”

Raye says that he hopes that customers will be understanding while the construction is going on nearby.

“We will make sure that there’s still parking and access to our building available,” said Raye.

Smalley Construction is expected to begin work this month on demolishing The Livery Building. That will be followed by building a parking lot where the building now stands, which is expected to have about 16 spaces and a stamped concrete walking area around it.
