Feb. 18: Transition Town Chelsea looks at solar power

On Monday, Feb. 18 at 6:30 p.m., Transition Town Chelsea will hear from Dave Strenski of Solar Ypsi who will share the group’s success story at the Chelsea Senior Center.

During his presentation, Strenski will explain how solar power works, how it attaches to your home or business, and the economics of solar power.

Everyone is invited to learn about solar power and bring your latest electric bill so a system can be sized for your home.

He will explain how the organization was founded and how their impact has grown over more than a decade.

Strenski is a man on a mission. See what can be accomplished with such an intense focus; and with an open organization that is flourishing without a formal legal structure.

They are a network of people who work to spread solar technology as rapidly as possible. They do it in a way that is more accessible and affordable for a wider range of people. They have partnered with the City of Ypsilanti and lately, with Habitat for Humanity.

Strenski holds degrees in surveying, civil, and mechanical engineering, and works as a principal engineer for Cray Inc.

As a hobby, he plays with solar power founding SolarYpsi in 2005, and helped Ypsilanti go from zero to over a megawatt of solar power.

The potluck meal begins at 6:30 p.m., and the presentation begins at 7:15 p.m. If you are attending the potluck meal, please bring a dish to pass and your own place settings.
