Feb. 6: Liberty Road Bridge Removal in Lima Township

Starting Monday, Feb. 6, the Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) will remove the Liberty Road Bridge over Mill Creek, due to extensive structural deterioration.

The bridge is located between Guenther Rd and Dancer Rd in Lima Township.

The Liberty Road bridge is under the jurisdiction of WCRC, and as a federally listed bridge structure, this local county bridge is subject to regular inspections. Based on inspection, the structural deterioration present resulted in the closure of the bridge in 2011.

Per agreement between WCRC and the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), this bridge is to be removed due to its condition and duration of the closure. While the bridge is unsafe, WCRC will attempt to leave the existing abutments in place as requested by the community.

During the removal process, if the abutments should fail, they will be removed to preserve the integrity of the Mill Creek.
The removal of the existing structure is expected to take approximately one week. However, all dates are tentative and subject to change due to weather conditions.
