The Chelsea Education Foundation’s annual “Heart of Chelsea” gala fundraiser is set for Saturday, Feb. 8 from 6-11 p.m. at the Chelsea Comfort Inn’s Village Conference Center.

The theme of this year’s event is “Growing Together,” a nod to the opportunities for individual and community improvement that arise when schools, businesses, and citizens join forces in support of lifelong learning.

In addition to the dining, dancing, and live and silent auctions, this year’s elegant event will feature a very special performance by the Chelsea House Orchestra under the direction of Jed Fritzemeier. Tickets are $75 per person or $560 for a table of eight, and are available online.

The Heart of Chelsea is sponsored by gold sponsors Chelsea Community Hospital, Coy Laboratories and Hatch Stamping Company and Silver Sponsor Dr. Raymond Howe Orthodontics

Thanks to individuals and businesses throughout the community, this all-volunteer organization was able to raise more than $32,000 at its 2013 event.

Last year, these funds helped make 55 students’ dreams of pursuing a college education come true. These students are pursuing degrees in Engineering, Nursing, Teaching, Business, and other fields. They range from young adults just graduating from Chelsea High School to non-traditional students seeking a career change.

CEF inviteThousands more residents – from preschoolers to senior citizens – benefited from grants to public schools and private institutions that enrich our entire community. From clubs that foster leadership and mentoring in our schools, to field trips that imbue students with a sense of history and civic pride, to inter-generational programs that enrich young and old alike, these grants facilitate programs and projects that might not otherwise be possible.

There will be elegant dining, jubilant dancing, and entertaining live and silent auctions.

More than 20 years ago, former Chelsea School District Superintendent Joe Piasecki had a vision to enhance the educational opportunities available to members of the Chelsea community. That vision became a reality in 1991 with the creation of the Chelsea Education Foundation, a non-profit, all-volunteer organization that provides grants to educators and college scholarships to students.

CEF has invested over $220,000 in these worthy endeavors, including more than $47,000 distributed in the 2012-13 academic year. The board counts among its membership local business owners, Board of Education members, school administration and staff, and area residents.
