(Chelsea Update would like to thank Fran LeFort for the information in this story.)
Washtenaw Community College (WCC) will offer a series of in-person and virtual events in February designed to highlight Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways for current and prospective students.
CTE Month® kicks off at WCC the week of Feb. 7 with a career decision-making workshop and a movie screening about the nursing profession. The month’s activities culminate on Feb. 28 with the annual Winter Career & Internship Fair, which is open to the public and will feature more than 70 employers looking to fill jobs.
CTE offers students hands-on training that can be applied to real-world, in-demand education training and career pathways, impacting a wide variety of fields including health care, business and information technology, advanced manufacturing, construction, transportation and more.
WCC offers more than 30 associate degrees and 40 certificates in CTE career fields, fueling a pipeline from a post-secondary education directly into the workforce.
While some CTE Month® events are designed for current WCC students, others such as the Feb. 8 and Feb. 27 workshops are also geared toward high school and other undecided students throughout the state to help them make decisions about a future career path.
A family-friendly Feb. 16 event will be hosted at Parkridge Community Center in Ypsilanti to provide resources about careers and support available through WCC. Information about the college’s new Advance Ypsi initiative to educate and train underserved and underrepresented high school students and adults from Ypsilanti will also be highlighted.
Career and Technical Education Month® is a public awareness campaign that takes place throughout the state and nationally.
WCC students can register for CTE Month® events through the Handshake platform.
