At Beach Middle School, fifth-graders from South Meadows Elementary School were welcomed with some rousing tunes played by members of Beach’s school band and orchestra.

Beach Principal Nick Angel spoke to the fifth-graders, who were assembled in the cafeteria, along with eighth-grade WEB (Where Everybody Belongs) leaders and teachers.

“The best part of the Moving Up Day experience is that students rotate through experiences that will assist them as they transition to Beach,” said Angel. “These stations are facilitated by our sixth-grade staff and include a building tour, a question and answer session, a sixth-grade camp station, and an opportunity for our soon to be sixth-graders to meet current Beach students who will discuss the ways to get involved in our building via clubs and student organizations.”

Fifth-graders had the chance to ask questions and spoke about what they were looking forward to in middle school, such as ice cream in the cafeteria and more activities to choose from.

For fifth-grader Joonas Furst, “I’m looking forward to the electives and choosing my own classes, and having a bigger building to explore.”

“I’m looking forward to being in the same school as my brother, who will be in eighth-grade, and to having a lot of different classes and teachers,” said fifth-grader Kylan Van Batavia, who said she’s nervous about getting to classes on time and being able to open her locker.

The visiting students learned their way around the school and learned about all the clubs Beach has to offer like math bowl, quiz bowl, Chelsea robotics, and yearbook, as well as about sixth-grade camp.

Angel assured the fifth-graders that they will be welcomed at Beach and congratulated them on finishing up their year at South Meadows Elementary School.
