(Chelsea Update would like to thank Freshman Football Coach Dennis Strzyzewski for the information in this story.)
The Chelsea Freshman football team defeated Tecumseh, 35-22, in a home game Thursday, Oct. 10.
Trailing 8-7 at the half, the Bulldogs took over in the second half.
Cam Cooper had two rushing touchdowns and caught a 30-yard scoring pass from Travis Frazier. Cal Barret scored on a 20-yard run. Eric Whitaker had a 4-yard touchdown run, while Chris Roush was 5 for 5 on extra points.
Cole Septer and Nick Koch were the leading tacklers for Chelsea. Lawrence Buckley had an interception and a long return that set up the go-ahead touchdown in what was a big turning point in the game.
“I can’t say enough about our young kids and their ability to make adjustments during the course of a game. We struggle at times, but they are willing to try to do what they are asked, and it has made a difference,” said coach Dennis Strzyzewski.
“Cash Shegan, Mykal Nelson, and Chris Roush are the battery for our kicking game. I am really happy with the way they work together to make the whole operation work,” he said, adding, “From snap-to-hold-to-kick, they are really solid for a freshman group. It is a big deal to have that kind of confidence in your kicking game at this level.”
“I would like to see the kids play with a little more emotion,” he said, adding, “I think we still go through the motions at times, but when they all play hard, the improvement really shows.”
