Faith In Action, the Chelsea-based nonprofit organization, is a financial assistance and resource center working to alleviate the effects of hunger and poverty in our community.
Chelsea Update will be running stories this new year to share the many facets of FIA and how it is there for those in need as well as for those who would like to support the work they do by donating money, food, and clothing, or also volunteer.
FIA was established in 1981, and more than 40 years later continues to support those in need.
In 2023, FIA processed more food orders in the first nine months of the year than in any other full year of operation. You can’t go wrong dropping off popular pantry items such as cereal, coffee, canned fruit, juice, and spaghetti sauce anytime they are open.
“FIA is a safety net,” said FIA’s Executive Director Sarah Shugart. “The tighter the net is, the fewer the number of people who will fall through it. Every individual who donates is a thread on that safety net.”
FIA’s staff is available to assess your eligibility for assistance, which may include access to the pantry, assistance in enrolling for benefits, support with utilities or rent, and connecting you with additional resources.
Keep your eyes peeled in the months to come for articles on Chelsea Update about seasonal programs, opportunities, fundraising events, and more coming up in 2024 at FIA. It’s your own local connection to helping and getting help.
