It was a family affair Wednesday night as Brayden (individual) and Adalyn (pairs) Gilbert of Grass Lake both took grand champion honors in the sheep show at the Chelsea Community Fair.

Brayden, 9, has been showing sheep for three years and Adalyn, 7, has been showing for two. After getting lambs from their aunt and uncle they soon began practicing with them, which led to competing.

Both siblings love to walk their sheep and shear them, but the showmanship classes are their favorite classes.

This year the sheep were divided into classes by weight and both Brayden and Adalyn emerged victorious from their classes before being chosen as the grand champions.

Next year, both siblings will be back and competing once again.

“Next year I’m looking at (showing) a feeder calf and sheep,” said Brayden.

“And I’m looking at (showing) a goat,” added Adalyn.

“We just really want to have some fun with the animals,” said Brayden. “It has been good, it’s been really fun.”

Mikayla Talbot, took reserve champion market lamb and Mason Trinkle, was the reserve champion pair winner.
