Guiding good choices parent workshops in October

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Emily Griswold for the information in this story.)

Parents, are you feeling prepared for the teen years?

SRSLY is partnering with St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea and the Community Mental Health Partnership of Southeast Michigan to lead free “Guiding Good Choices” parent workshops this fall.

These workshops help parents with communication, bonding, managing conflict, and setting rules and boundaries.

Guiding Good Choices is a series of five workshops, held over 5 weeks. SRSLY will be holding them in Chelsea on Thursdays from Oct. 3 to Oct. 31 from 4-6 p.m. in the Media Center at South Meadows Elementary School. (Note: the last session may be moved to another date due to Halloween)

Parents, guardians and/or grandparents are welcome to attend. The program works best with caregivers who have a child between the ages of 9-14 years, but is open to anyone.

  • Oct. 3 – Session 1: Planning a Family Meeting
  • Oct. 10 – Session 2: Developing Healthy Beliefs & Clear Standards
  • Oct. 17 – Session 3: Refusal Skills for Youth
  • Oct. 24 – Session 4: Managing Conflict
  • Oct. 31 – Session 5: Strengthening Family Bonds

This program is evidence-based, and is proven to reduce youth substance abuse and other problematic behaviors. There is no charge to attend the workshops, and childcare is available upon request.
