Help Chelsea Area Historical Society and Museum retire mortgage

Thanks to the on-going support of many folks in the community, 2018 proved to be a landmark year for the Chelsea Area Historical Society (CAHS).

In addition to many wonderful programs focused on Chelsea’s rich history, the museum has welcomed a number of important new pieces to its collection and the group has been more active than ever in the Chelsea community.

Perhaps most exciting development has been the success of the first half of the CAHS “Match to Burn the Mortgage” campaign.

Since CAHS was able to raise $25,000 in donations from local supporters, the group met the challenge match and reduced the $120,000 Land Contract to a traditional mortgage of $50,000. Plus, the monthly payments are one-third of the previous amount.

A generous anonymous donor has agreed to the second half of the Match Campaign – this supporter will donate another $25,000 in 2019 when CAHS matches it by raising another $25,000.

At that point, the mortgage will be paid and CAHS will be debt-free adding to the long-term viability of the historical society.

This donor agreed to allow CAHS to start raising funds toward the 2019 match on Dec. 1. So, when considering your year-end donations this month, please consider a donation to the CAHS and have your donation doubled.

You will receive the appropriate written confirmation to use as a fully tax-deductible contribution in this year’s taxes.

Donations can be mailed to “Chelsea Area Historical Society” at 128 Jackson St., Chelsea, 48118; or can be made on-line here.

In addition to looking forward to “Burning the Mortgage” in 2019, the historical society already has a number of presentations lined-up to further share Chelsea’s history. There will also be several significant physical improvements that will be announced in 2019.

If you haven’t visited the museum recently, please visit and see all that the historical society has accomplished. The museum is open from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
