Hometown Holiday presents … a Saturday filled with fun

Day two of Hometown Holiday begins with a free breakfast with Santa from 8:30 – 10:30 a.m. at the Comfort Inn & Village Conference Center, 1645 Commerce Park Dr. Bring your camera and children can sit with Santa and enjoy a pancake breakfast. Sponsored by Lake Trust Credit Union.

Next up, the Children’s Christmas Bazaar, which takes place from 10 a.m. –  4 p.m. at Chelsea First United Methodist Church, 128 Park St. This event is by prior appointment only and allows children age 4 through 6th grade to shop for the holidays from the thousands of affordable handmade and locally made items available, all for $5 or less.

Take a trip to Waterloo and enjoy Christmas on the Farm, both today and Sunday. The event will be open today from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and on Sunday, Sunday, Dec. 8 from noon – 4 p.m. at Waterloo Farm. This annual recreation of the holiday’s traditions includes tours of the 10-room farmhouse, the authentic log house, eight outbuildings, and the one-room Dewey School. Hand-crafted greens, homemade baked goods, and gift items will be available for purchase. Free refreshments and live music will be among the offerings for this homespun weekend.

All The Trimmings Artisan’s Holiday Show runs from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the service center at the Chelsea Community Fairgrounds.  A wonderful artisans’ show featuring unique local talent – woodcarvings, bears, counted cross-stitch, pastels, tiles, folk paintings, textiles, jewelry, antiques and collectibles, rug hooking, punch needle, stained glass, photography, bread boards and fresh Christmas greens. Free refreshments, free admission, and free parking.

There are two session of the Gingerbread House Workshop from 11 a.m. – noon and from noon to 1 p.m. at Chelsea First United Methodist Church, 128 Park St. Each family can decorate a gingerbread house free but there are only 100 houses available. Sponsored by Chelsea Clocktower.

There will be Purple Rose Theatre Company Concert Readings from 10:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Chelsea District Library’s  McKune Room. Join PRTC actors for a reading of Scrooge Macbeth, or A Shakespearean Christmas, a new comedy by David MacGregor. You are invited to stay after the performance to share your thoughts on the script.

Ballet Chelsea performs The Nutcracker today at 2 and 7 p.m. and on Sunday, Dec. 8 at 2 p.m. In addition, on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. is the Sugar Plum Tea. All events are at Chelsea High School.

And not to be missed is the annual Chelsea Light Parade, which begins at 6 p.m. along Main Street. There will be lit floats, vehicles, marching bands and of course, the big man, himself – Santa Claus. The parade starts at Chelsea State Bank’s south-end lot and ends at the Chelsea Teddy Bear Company for the free community afterglow party with refreshments.

Then you can participate in the Community Sing from 7-9 p.m. at the Chelsea Teddy Bear Company, 400 N. Main Street while warming up after the parade. Enjoy free refreshments and sing holiday carols with Counterpoint.  Sponsored by Chelsea Teddy Bear Company & Chelsea Comfort Inn.

At 7:30 p.m. is the Bear Cub Run, also at the Teddy Bear Company. Share in the excitement as several local children are selected to run through the Chelsea Teddy Bear warehouse and grab as many bears as they can carry.

CAP Youth Theatre presents “It’s a Wonderful Life” at 7:30 p.m. tonight and at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Washington Street Education Center, 512 E. Washington St.
