Human Right Commission Planning November Refugee Resettlement Education Event

By Lisa Carolin

Members of the Chelsea Human Rights Commission are moving ahead with the recent approval by Chelsea City Council to form an ad hoc committee.

At the HRC’s Aug. 3 meeting, they discussed the purpose of such a committee, which they will form to plan an event in November on the topic of refugee resettlement. The McKune Room of the Chelsea District Library has been reserved for speakers from Jewish Family Services and Washtenaw Refugee Welcome for the event.

The HRC is also inviting representatives from Faith in Action, the Chelsea Rotary Club, and Chelsea High School. Topics will include the process of resettlement and differentiating between refugees and immigrants.

Look for members of the Chelsea HRC at the Aug. 20 Chelsea Farmers Market at Palmer Commons. They will have a table at the market and share information about what they do.

The HRC meets next on Sept. 7 at 7 p.m.
