A favorite fall tradition of the Meloche family is making their own apple cider, using an old-fashioned style cider press.

For the last two years, they’ve brought this tradition to residents of Silver Maples of Chelsea to celebrate fall together.

“There’s something fascinating—and delicious—about how cider is made from crushed apples and that’s it: no added sugar or spices, just the pure apples,” said Silver Maples Director of Activities and Wellness Emily Meloche, “Getting to share this favorite part of the season with our residents is such a treat! Plus, it’s fun for my ‘Silver Maples Family’ and my given family to get to meet each other!”

With apples from Lesser Orchard and doughnuts from the Dexter Cider Mill, it was a great morning to celebrate autumn in Washtenaw County.
