Saturday Farmers' Market logoI don’t know about you, but, I’m counting the days until May when both the Wednesday Bushel Basket Farmers’ Market and the Saturday Chelsea Farmers’ Market open for the season.

New Market Manager Ashley Miller Helmholdt would like the community to know that there are summer internships and volunteer positions available at both markets.

Interns will help with things such as the nutrition education events, and volunteers will help with things such as distributing market evaluations and customer counting.

Helmboldt says the Wednesday market will return to the hospital grounds in the overflow parking area adjacent to the University of Michigan Family Practice Center off Old US-12, across from the Chelsea Wellness Center.

The Saturday Market is scheduled to open Saturday, May 4.

Helmholdt also wants to remind readers about both markets’ Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, which allows Bridge Cards to be used at the market for local food.

“We are also participating in the Double Up Food Bucks program this year with the support of the Chelsea Wellness Foundation,” she said, adding that this program doubles Bridge Card customers’ purchasing power for fresh fruits and vegetables grown in Michigan. Plus, it increases vendor sales.

So, if you’re interested in more information about the internships or volunteer opportunities, please email Helmholdt at [email protected].
