Joseph Brodeur, an 11th grader at Chelsea High School, attended the 2024 Michigan State Police Kiwanis Law Enforcement Student Career Academy. Thirty-five high school students from across Michigan participated in the program.
The academy required students to partake in the following tasks:
- Introduction to law enforcement
- Traffic Law
- Crime lab & forensic science
- Water Safety
- Military Drill
- Defensive tactics
- First Aid
- Criminal tracking demonstrations
- Leadership skills
This jointly sponsored program run by the Michigan State Police, has been held annually since 1975. The Kiwanis Club of Chelsea sponsored Brodeur.
The program is geared towards high school students interested in law enforcement careers. Students spend six days at the Michigan State Police Training Academy in Lansing.
