Jessica Joy London‘s work titled Natural Phenomena/Synthetic Wonder will be on exhibit at the River Gallery from July 11-Aug. 17.

Her opening reception will take place on July 11 from 6-8 p.m. during Sounds and Sights on Thursday Nights.

The recent graduate of U-M, Penny Stamps Schools of Art and Design, London holds an MFA. London concentrated on studying painting but chose to also spend time exploring the concepts and techniques central to the science of biomedical research, according to the press release.

Her installations at the River Gallery are made of thousands of small translucent, colorful circles that stick together to form infinitely larger forms. These constructions symbolize acts of creation that reference cells, coral and fantastical creatures that are found in the ocean, according to a press release about her work.

She also builds sculptures from single cell translucent circles that evolve into large organic forms looking like hives, or large pools of frogs eggs floating in space with the transcendence of stained glass.

You can meet the artist, see her work and enjoy light refreshments.
