July 23: deadline to file for election to the Chelsea City Council for 3 available seats

There are three, 4-year seats up for grabs on the Chelsea City Council in November while two of the three current Council Members plan to run for reelection.

Current Council Members Pete Feeney has filed and Jane Pacheco plans to file nomination petitions for the Nov. 5 general election.

Council Member Frank Hammer has chosen not to run after serving almost 27 years on the City Council.

The deadline for filing nominating petitions and affidavits of identity is 4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23.

A minimum of 15 valid signatures from registered electors of the City are required. Nominating Petitions are available at the City Office. Affidavits of Identity are available at the City Office and at www.city-chelsea.org. Click on ‘Clerk’ then ‘Election Information & Forms’.

Nominating Petitions and Affidavits of Identity will be accepted at the City Clerk’s Office, 305 S. Main St.

State Election Law (168.737a as amended under P.A. 87 of 2006) requires write-in candidates to file a “Write-In Candidate Declaration of Intent” with the City Clerk by 4 p.m., Friday, Oct. 25. This form is available at the City Office and www.city-chelsea.org.

Votes for write-in candidates who fail to file a Declaration of Intent by the specified time will not count.

Official Declaration of Intent forms are available at the City Clerk’s office during regular business hours, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
