July 25-27: See what’s planned for this year’s Sounds and Sights Festival

Music, a social tent, the KidZone, an Art Market, Classic Cruisers Car Show and chalk art are some of the many events planned for this year’s Sounds & Sights Festival that takes place from July 25-27 in downtown Chelsea.

More than 15,000 people are expected to visit the two-day, three-night festival, according to a press release about the event.

Social Tent:    
Located behind The Common Grill, the social tent opens at 6 p.m., with live bands performing from 7 to 11 p.m.  Beer and wine will be for sale to those aged 21 and over. Admission is $5 and all ages are welcome. (In addition to the many local sponsors including The City of Chelsea DDA, Chelsea State Bank, “Jiffy” Mixes, and Lake Trust Credit Union, proceeds from the Social Tent help fund the Thursday Night concert series.)

KidZone:
The KidZone area, sponsored by Chelsea Teddy Bear Company, will offer activities for children of all ages on both Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Located behind the Clocktower complex, kids will enjoy free bounce houses, Little Conductor Train Rides, Chelsea Fire department demonstrations, bubble blowing stations, Chelsea Lanes games, and more.

Art Market:
The Chelsea Art Market, located on West Middle Street, has been redefined, with cool, hip, and affordable art from emerging artists and craft persons.  The juried show is open on both Friday, July 26 and Saturday, July 27  from noon to 8 p.m. Visitors will watch downtown street artists demonstrate techniques in clay, glass, copper foil, jewelry making, painting, and wood carving.

Classic Cruisers Car Show:
East Middle, East, and Harrison streets will be transformed into a classic car show on Friday, July 26 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. with more than 300 classic cars expected from across the Midwest.

Chalk Art
New this year is a community chalk art event scheduled for Saturday, July 27 from noon until 4 p.m. Participants of all abilities and ages are encouraged to help transform the black asphalt of Middle Street into a space filled with vibrant colors and works of art.  Professional chalk artists will demonstrate chalk art techniques while participants create Chelsea’s first ‘community quilt’.

44th Annual FMRCOA Swap Meet, Car Show and Car Corral

The annual FMRCOA swap meet, car show and car corral will take place at the Chelsea Community Fairgrounds on Saturday, July 27 and Sunday, July 28. Sponsored by Varsity Ford of Ann Arbor, all makes of parts and accessories are expected to be available and the car show in on Sunday. For more information, click here.
