July 25-27: What bands are playing at Sounds & Sights Festival Main Stage

Chelsea Area Festivals and Events is proud to announce the 43rd year of the Sounds & Sights Festival July 25, 26 and 27.

Presented by Rick Taylor Real Estate – Reinhart Realtors, the weekend event will feature national and regional live music acts, local food and brew, an open-air art market, classic car show, chalk art contest, and multiple activities for all ages. 

Social Tent and Festival Main Stage:   

Located behind The Common Grill restaurant, the festival social tent opens each evening at 6 p.m., with live bands performing from 7 to 11 p.m. Beer and wine will be for sale to those aged 21 and over. Admission in the evenings is $5 and all ages are welcome. Thanks to the many local sponsors including Roberts Paint & Body, Bank of Ann Arbor, Chelsea District Library, Chelsea State Bank, “Jiffy” Mixes, and St Joseph Mercy Chelsea, proceeds from the social tent help fund the summer long “Sounds & Sights on Thursday Nights” free concert series.

Thursday, July 25 is billed as ‘Local Spotlight’ and features two bands from Michigan.

Opening at 7p.m. is singer-songwriter, May Erlewine. Her prolific and passionate songwriting has touched hearts of people all over the world. Her music has a touch of traditional folk, old time country swing, soul and rock and roll. Her songs have been sung by national acts, including Sawyer Fredericks (NBC The Voice), Joshua Davis, Rani Arbor and others.

At 9 p.m., back by popular demand, The Accidentals is fronted by multi-instrumentalists Savannah Buist and Katie Larson and joined by percussionist Michael Dause performing an eclectic blend of indie folk, pop, jazz, bluegrass, rock, classical and other genres, utilizing their orchestral roots and electronic influences. The Accidentals have received multiple awards such as Billboards Top Seven Breakout Artists SXSW 2015, Top Ten Artists to Watch at SXSW 2016, Yahoo Music Top Ten Bands to Watch 2017, WYCE Album of the Year, Parking Lot 2017, WYCE Song of the Year, Michigan and Again 2017 and more.

Friday, July 26 is ‘Country Night’ and features two of the region’s most popular country performers: Ashley Lynn & the Spurs and Drew Hale Band.  Ashley Lynn & the Spurs performs on the festival main stage, opening Friday night at 7 p.m. Specializing in classic rock and country, Ashley brings high energy musical fun to the main stage. Up next, Drew Hale is an award-winning singer/songwriter (2015 Country Showdown National Champion) where he has had an opportunity to play alongside national recording artists including Tim McGraw, Dierks Bentley, Cassadee Pope, RaeLynn, Scotty McCreery and others.

Saturday afternoon, the Social tent has free admission from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and features The Kielbasa Kings from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.  The Dearborn-based polka band performs contemporary and traditional polkas, waltzes and obereks, instrumentally and sung in Polish and English.

Saturday evening the tent reopens at 6 p.m. with a $5 cover to the festival’s annual ‘Dance Party’.  The high energy talent of Metro Soul Band kicks off the party at 7 p.m. performing a diverse mix of classic soul and R&B alongside traditional blues.

Sounds & Sights welcomes back a social tent favorite, Fifty Amp Fuse, who will be closing out the Sounds & Sights Festival weekend with their tribute to the greatest hits of all time from the 70s, 80s, 90s and today.
