July 25: Rainwater harvesting system workshop

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Megan DeLeeuw for the information in this story.)

The Washtenaw County Conservation District (WCCD) is hosting a workshop on Rainwater Harvesting System Design for ALL Buildings on Thursday, July 25 from 6-8 p.m. at Scio Township Hall (827 N Zeeb Road)

The cost is $10 per person.  RSVP by contacting Megan DeLeeuw at [email protected] or 734-205-1219.

Presenters include Eddie Van Giesen III, national Sales Manager at Raincycle and Celeste Allen Novak FAIA, LEED, who are co-authors of Designing Rainwater Harvesting Systems: Integrating Rainwater Into Building Systems.

Today it is possible to design virtually all buildings and landscapes to collect, store and treat water in order to provide a resilient water resource in times of drought or to provide disaster assistance.

Rainwater Harvesting for ALL Buildings is a workshop designed to demystify rainwater collection for domestic, commercial and agricultural usages.

The workshop will include a sizing exercise to determine how much rain can be gathered from your rooftop. Attendees should be prepared to use basic calculations to size a rainwater system.

The presenters will be prepared to answer your questions about rainwater harvesting and discuss the optimal amount of water to store for later use.

Rain barrels will also be available for pick up at Scio Township Hall prior to this event at the Scio Township Hall from 3-5:30 p.m.

Pre-orders are required through the WCCD website (https://www.washtenawcd.org/store).
