On Tuesday, July 28, Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) officials will hold an information meeting to discuss the proposed roundabout planned for the Werkner Road and M-52 roundabout project at Sylvan Township Hall from 6-8 p.m.

The roundabout is planned to replace the blinking light at the Sylvan Township intersection, which will be a major change in traffic flow at this intersection linking I-94 and I-96.

Construction is proposed to commence this fall. Click M-52 AT Werkner Roundabout Presentation 4-16-15 for the presentation.

The Chelsea City Council recently adopted a resolution of support of this roundabout plan and forwarded it to the Washtenaw County Road Commission as well as the state.

Township officials would like to hear from you about the proposed roundabout. Go here and click on the MDOT presentation, or call Township Hall at 475-8890 for more information.

  1. I like the roundabout concept because it slows the traffic naturally and allows for different
volumes to keep moving from all directions. It also directs traffic as it merges in the same general
direction so any accidents that might occur are glancing rather that head on or T-Bone.

  2. I dislike this idea. What are you going to do about the heavy, and over sized loads that we having traveling through Chelsea to Stockbridge to get to the express ways? There is no way a wide load is going to be able to make those turns. Why spend more money to put this in, when there is already a set up for a traffic light there? I know there are many accidents there. But why not change the speed limit down to 45, coming into Chelsea that way people are able to stop coming into the light?

  3. I agree with Sheri wide loads semi trucks busses and just traffic in general do not realize the space a bigger vehicle needs to maneuver a roundabout let a lone the speed limit in them. A traffic light would be safer.

  4. I like the roundabout plan and think it will be much safer and handle the peak morning flow much better than a light or the current arrangement. Big trucks and buses can navigate the circle with no problem and at safe speeds. The presentation shows this and these are use in many places nearby with good success. I look forward to driving in circles!
