July 7-8: City of Chelsea resident feedback sought for Chelsea POP project

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Emily Lake for the information in this story.)

The City of Chelsea is seeking feedback from residents for the Chelsea POP demonstration project this fall.

Residents will see temporary street improvements along East and West Middle Street, East Street, Washington Street, and Madison Street that aim to calm traffic and increase safety for pedestrians and bicyclists.

Project partners will be hosting public input events next week to share information about the project and collect input from Chelsea residents about what improvements they would like to see demonstrated.

A virtual event will be held on July 7 from 6-7 p.m. and an in-person event will be held at Palmer Commons on July 8 from 6-7 p.m. For the in-person event, residents of all ages are encouraged to bring their bicycle and helmet to practice bicycle skills and learn about bicycle safety with the project team.

Residents may also share feedback through an online survey that will be available on the project website.

“It’s so important for community members to participate in the planning process from the very beginning because they know about the safety challenges on their neighborhood streets better than anyone,” said Emily Lake, project coordinator and associate transportation planner with the Washtenaw Area Transportation Study (WATS).
