June 12: Chelsea Zero Waste Coalition Meeting

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Megan McCall for the information in this story.)

The Chelsea Zero Waste Coalition will meet Wednesday, June 12 at 6:30 p.m. in the City Council chambers at 311 S. Main St.

The agenda includes:

Plastic Free July – a international initiative to move toward a world free of plastic waste. What can we do to encourage participation?

Legislation update: What is the status of Senate Bill 228, introduced by our Senator Sue Shink?  This is the bill reversing legislation in 2016 under Rick Snyder which preempted local control over any plastic bags or containers. Members will share what they currently know and what the county-wide Washtenaw Zero Waste Coalition has to say.

Elementary Schools: A discussion of the current state of recycling in the schools and how we can encourage recycling and environmental education.

New Packaging on the horizon-hear about an ecological alternative to expanded foam which is being developed.

Upcoming Events:

Sounds and Sights Summer Festival is Friday July 26 and Saturday July 27, look for a sign-up and join us in making the festival a low waste event again this year.

Chelsea Fair Kitchen- Last year CZWC helped the fabulous Chelsea Fair Kitchen reduce their waste through recycling and composting. Hear about plans for this year’s Fair Kitchen.

Brainstorm– Could we have our own EcoTour next year, showcasing organizations and businesses that help waste reduction in our community?
