Kids Need Kiwanis

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Jim Randolph for the information in this story.)

“Kids Need Kiwanis” is Kiwanis International’s brand campaign.  So, it is no surprise that the focus of much of the giving and many of the activities of the Kiwanis Club of Chelsea is on kids.

In a typical year, for example, Chelsea Kiwanis makes contributions to CHS Scholarships, North and South Schools PTO, the Bulldog Jog, the Library Summer Read Program, Bring Up Grades Program at South School, Safety Town Helmets, Easter Egg Hunt at UMRC, SRSLY, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Boys and Girls State (through CHS), the Athletic Boosters, the Band Program, Ballet Chelsea, and so forth.

You get the idea – Chelsea Kiwanis is an integral supporter of kid’s activities in our community.

You might be surprised however, to learn that our local club also supports many programs for “older kids.”  Examples include the Intergenerational Garden at the Senior Center, Dawn Farm, Ele’s Place, Faith in Action, the St. Louis Center, the Chelsea Community Fair, Sounds and Sights, and so forth.

You get the idea – Chelsea Kiwanis is an integral supporter of all level of activities in our community.

As I wrote earlier, an important consequence of not having our concession trailer at the July Sounds and Sights Festival, the Chelsea Community Fair, and all home varsity football games is the club lost the majority of its revenue stream for this current year. The entirety of the net proceeds from these trailer sales are pumped back into the Chelsea community supporting myriad organizations and activities.

As you may have seen, we are repeating our gourmet nut and chocolate candy sale this fall and winter. Club members have cans of mixed nuts and chocolate candies for sale, with all of the net proceeds going back into our community budget. We are even planning a table at the November Chelsea Farmer’s Markets.

The 2.25-pound cans of nuts include cashews, almonds, pecans, Brazils, and pistachios (no peanuts). The 2-pound tin of candies includes dark chocolate covered almonds and pretzels, milk chocolate cashews and raisins, double-dipped chocolate peanuts, peanut butter pretzels, and milk chocolate toffee peanuts. The price is $25 per can for either product.

To order, visit our Facebook page to “send message” with your contact information and order: http://www.facebook.com/kiwanisclubofchelsea or ask any local Kiwanian. Or, call John Knox at 248-921-9222 or Jim Randolph at 734-474-9012.

Thanks in advance for your continuing support of Chelsea Kiwanis and by extension, the entire Chelsea area community.

So, with all apologies to Kiwanis International, let me assert that the brand campaign for the Kiwanis Club of Chelsea might be better described as “Chelsea Needs Kiwanis.”

Just as important at this moment, Kiwanis needs Chelsea.

Normally, Chelsea Kiwanis meets each Monday at 6:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea Hospital cafeteria, and the speakers begin at about 6:45 p.m.

  1. We purchased some knockwursts through Kiwanis recently, as another food option (fundraiser). They have hotdogs as well. Are frozen / pre-cooked. Went through their FB page to order, and they responded promptly! So if you are craving some of their concession stand meats, that’s available too!
