Lane Animal Hospital asks clients to be patient with new procedures in place

After conferring with the dog’s owner in the parking lot, Lane Animal Hospital Veterinary Technician Justine Sumwalt takes a client’s dog into the building for a scheduled appointment.

Ryan was scheduled for a follow-up appointment Tuesday at Lane Animal Hospital, but I called Monday about the necessity and left a message.

His veterinarian, Dr. Margaret Lane and I had a telemedicine call that resulted in me not needing to bring him in and just heading there to pick-up another 2-week prescription for him.

One of the veterinarian’s designated areas in Lane Animal Hospital’s parking lot.

Upon arrival, the parking lot was divided and clearly marked with signs. Each veterinarian has an area.

Clients are asked to call when they arrive to their veterinarian’s designated area in the parking lot and staff comes out to get the pet.

Special provisions are made for necessary medications as well, which will be explained by staff. No human contact necessary.

I commend staff for their diligent efforts to provide services to our pets while keeping human clients, pets and hospital staff as safe as possible during these COVID-19 times.

Veterinary hospitals are considered essential services in the state, which means despite the state’s Stay Home, Stay Safe, Save Lives executive order, Lane Animal Hospital will still be able to provide care for your pets.

However, this does not protect the hospital if one of the staff or doctors becomes ill or exposed.

Therefore, the lobby remains closed and elective services like grooming and boarding will be closed for the time being.

Caylee Laidlaw gets vital information about a pet before it is taken into the animal hospital for a scheduled appointment.

At this time, Lane is not currently cancelling, or postponing services for pets that are already scheduled, but continues to monitor its schedule closely.

Lane staff asks that you please be patient with the phones. The front desk is fielding a tremendous amount of calls and the doctors are utilizing those same phone lines for telemedicine.

Please remember you can always reach the office via email ([email protected]) for all of your pet’s needs. You can also get updates by clicking here.
