Laura Lake appointed to Chelsea Planning Commission, approves 2 DPW purchases

This month, the Chelsea Planning Commission will welcome a new member following the unanimous appointment of Laura Lake at the Aug. 3 Chelsea City Council meeting.

A resident of the city since April 2019, she is a GIS specialist and UAS pilot with extensive experience in mapping applications and aerial imagery products as well as planning knowledge.

On her application, she wrote, “I would like to gain experience with local planning, and I am passionate about using my skillsets to benefit my community.”

Her appointment will expire on June 30, 2023.

The City Council also unanimously approved two purchase requests by the Public Works Department. The first was for a Kubota tractor with a broom and snowblower at a price of $35,300 and the second was for a new ride on spreader from Superior Industrial at a price of about $5,800.

Both are budgeted items and will be used for maintenance operations.

Derik Bollinger said the tractor will be used in conjunction with existing equipment as the tractor the department is currently using is 15 years old. The new tractor will be purchased from Boullion Sales.

The ride on spreader will be used for winter maintenance and can also be used in the summer for spreading lime or fertilizer. Bollinger said the spreader will be helpful for the department to maintain Palmer Commons, the dog park and Pierce Park paths.

Three bids were submitted for both items and the lowest bidder was chosen.
