Hoola Jewelry, a Chelsea-based company, held its annual “Women Empowering Other Women” Conference on Saturday, Aug. 17 at the Village Conference Center at the Comfort Inn.

Each year at this conference, Hoola presents a “Woman of the Year” award to honor a local woman who has an affiliation with Hoola Jewelry, and who has also given back to her community in some way.

This award reflects the spirit of Hoola Jewelry’s mission statement, which is to build and encourage women through the sale of interchangeable jewelry.

Laura Naar, Chelsea High School art teacher, was awarded the 2019 Hoola “Woman of the Year” award for her work as co-founder and president of Chelsea High School’s #WhyYouMatter program, a program created to build self-esteem in the student body.

#WhyYouMatter has been copied in other high schools throughout the US, Canada and the U.K.
