Letter to the Editor: Nov. 5 Chelsea District School bond proposal on ballot

Dear Editor:

Mark your calendar for November 5.

There is a bond proposal on the ballot for the Chelsea School District. From January through May of 2019, Superintendent Helber convened a Bond Study Team to carefully assess the programmatic and structural needs of our public school district.

Many different stakeholders from the community were involved in the needs assessment process. The work of the Bond Study Team resulted in a proposal to address specific safety, security, infrastructure, and programmatic needs of the school district for the next 10-15 years.

Information about the bond proposal is available at https://www.chelsea.k12.mi.us/bond-proposal-2019 for your review.

Voters should know that this bond proposal maintains the current level of support for our public school district without raising any taxes. There is no increase in taxes if you support this bond.

It has been 10 years since the district has proposed a bond, so your consideration of this proposal is very important.

I encourage you to read about the proposal, ask questions of Superintendent Helber ([email protected], 734-433-2208 ext.6080) and board members (www.chelsea.k12.mi.us/boe/people/), and exercise your right to vote.

Respectfully,

Shawn Quilter
Parent of a 2nd grader, president of the Chelsea School District Board of Education, and CHS alumnus
