Letter to the Editor: Support Candidates Who Listen to Parents

Dear Editor:

I believe children are the future.

I have been reading with interest the various letters to the editor in support of and against the various candidates for election to the Chelsea School Board.

One made mention of trusting the “education professionals” to make the correct decisions about the education of the children in the Chelsea School District. As a reminder, these same “education professionals” supported the lockdowns of the schools during the pandemic. The lockdowns set many of the children back at least a year or more in emotional and educational development. I don’t think I would want to trust these “education professionals” after those decisions.

Another made mention of a candidate who would probably have supported the banning of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn in schools. I remind our gentle readers that this book was banned because of the repeated use of the “N” word. The reason given for the banning doesn’t sound conservative, it sounds more like what would be called “woke” in the present day. Not exactly conservative.

I will support candidates that will listen to what parents say at school board meetings and not shut their microphone down or report them as domestic terrorists if the parent said something that the school board didn’t like.

Freedom of Speech and the Right to petition our government for redress of grievances is enshrined in our US Constitution. As a reminder, the First Amendment wasn’t meant to protect you from speech you didn’t like. The First Amendment was meant to protect speech you don’t like from you.

As a 22-year Veteran of the Armed Forces and former employee of the US Department of Justice for 11 years, I swore to uphold and defend the US Constitution for the past 33 years.

Please remember that on Nov. 8.
