Letter to the Editor: Support school millage renewal May 7

Letter to the Editor:

The Gietzen family has resided in Chelsea for over thirty years. Not long enough to have a road named after us, but long enough to know we live in a special community.

Support of the Chelsea School District is a major reason for that feeling. On May 7th we have an opportunity to continue the community’s long time support of the school district. As registered voters, we will be asked to approve a millage RENEWAL proposal. This is not a new tax but rather an extension of the current NON – Homestead tax under the 1984 Headlee amendment.

The Chelsea School District has achieved several academic accomplishments including a graduation rate of over 95% (top 4% in Michigan), an average ACT score of 23.3 (Michigan average is 20.1) and a U.S. News and Report study which ranked Chelsea High School 21st out of 826 Mich. high schools.

These achievements are not by chance but through the efforts of our excellent teaching staff, administrators, and most importantly the solid home support system which encourages our young people to strive to learn.

Academics, the arts and the athletic programs need our continued support.

Vote May 7th to keep our district strong!

Ken Gietzen
