Letter to the Editor: Trenda Eversole, a Better Choice for Sylvan

Dear Editor:

I’ve been a resident of Sylvan for 38 years and have been actively involved in local government, both as an observer at meetings and in several official positions.

I highly recommend Trenda Eversole for Treasurer.  She is honest and forthcoming about who she is and doesn’t rebrand herself to manipulate voters.  I’m impressed with her ability to listen and to be open to acknowledging that there may be other, better ways of accomplishing things different from what she thinks is best.  She believes in civility and respect at board meetings, which she attends regularly, and at the office where she is Deputy Treasurer.

Anyone who has attended board meetings knows the vitriol and unfounded accusations that are aggressively tossed out to the benefit of no one.  She has spoken up at board meetings to essentially say “we can be better than this, people”.  Yes, we can and need to be.

Trenda is meticulous when handling finances and paperwork and truly wants to understand and learn, a trait I value and share.  She works cooperatively with Sylvan’s professional accountant (with whom I have also worked and respect immensely).  Trenda is a team player (she actually has a business focused on team building).

Her opponent for Treasurer definitely has more credentials, but unfortunately lacks the civility and openness to approaches other than her own, qualities I consider essential for the board to function in the best interest of the residents.  If you are in the hospital do you want a doctor who talks down to you, believes they know everything, and isn’t open to a better treatment suggested by a less experienced doctor?

Lastly, I consider myself an independent voter who leans heavily Democratic. I doubt Trenda and I have any yard signs in common, but my wife and I proudly have a “Trenda for Treasurer” sign out there.

She is best for Sylvan Township.
