Letts Creek Linear Park to be Competed This Fall

By Lisa Carolin

The Timbertown portion of the Letts Creek Linear Park trail is on schedule to be completed this fall.

That was reported by Chelsea City Manager John Hanifan at the Oct. 5 Chelsea Parks Commission meeting held via Zoom.

Hanifan made it clear that the trail will be running around Timbertown and not through it. The county portion of the Border to Border Trail will connect from M-52 to Sibley Road.

Also discussed was the Parks Plan Amendment process, which includes soliciting public input through Oct. 18, when a public hearing has been set during the Chelsea City Council meeting. The public is invited to provide input at the hearing. The parks plan can be found here.

City Council is expected to adopt a resolution to approve the plan at its first meeting (via Zoom) in November.

Members of the Parks Commission learned more about property the City of Chelsea acquired close to a year ago on Freer Road. The Parks Commission will make a request at an upcoming city council meeting to have the property dedicated as parkland. The plan is to remove a house and barns on the property, reclaiming as much of the materials as possible.

The Parks Commission welcomed new member Eugene “Pat” Muldoon at the meeting. The commission meets next on Nov. 2 at 9 a.m. via Zoom.
