Lima Board considers site location for new township hall

Lima Township Hall

Where exactly to construct a new township hall building is one of the questions facing the Lima Township Board.

At its Jan. 14 meeting, Paul Montagno, a planner from Carlisle/Wortman Associates, Inc., presented some preliminary conceptual drawings of the property where the new township hall will be built.

The site is located at 11516 Jackson Road and includes Fire Station No. 2. The property is just shy of 16.5 acres.

Although nothing is set in stone, members of an ad hoc building committee are showing interest in locating the township hall building on the northeast corner of the property.

The fire station is in the front of the property along Jackson Road. Other considerations include the location of a main parking lot as well as an overflow parking area, possibly moving the driveway entrance, and additional land uses.

The board unanimously approved hiring Wolverine Moore Glass, Inc. to do glass repair work in the existing township hall building not to exceed $800.

The board also approved Fire Code Ordinance Resolution #2019-02, which allows the Chelsea Area Fire Authority to work with the Chelsea Area Construction Authority on property protection.

The Poverty Exemption Guidelines Resolution #2019-01 was also approved.

In a 4-1 vote, (Nanette Havens against), the board approved postponing action on application #2018-002 regarding rezoning 1035 N. Fletcher Road until after a presentation is made to the planning commission.
