Lima Township Board Approves 5-Year Voting Machine Contract

By Lisa Carolin

Voting equipment for township voters should be in good shape for the next five years thanks to the Lima Township Board’s approval 4-0 (Dale Luick absent) of a five-year service agreement with contractor Hart InterCivic from Texas at the June 14 meeting.

The board agreed to pay the five-year service cost for a 10-percent discount and savings of $826. This vote superseded the board’s May 10 meeting vote and stipulated that the payment to Hart is not to exceed $7,500.

Board members discussed Lima Township’s website and the possibility of changing it to the government address of a .gov.

Lima Township Supervisor Duane Luick said he spoke to Kyle Shumaker, president of Shumaker Technology Group, which the township hired three years ago to run its website. Luick said that although the $400 would be waived for a new website this year, there’s no guarantee the cost would be waived next year.

Board members agreed to consider changing the township’s website address.

The board also discussed the possibility of a stand-alone ordinance regarding unsafe structures and dangerous buildings in Lima Township. Currently, the township works with the Chelsea Area Construction Agency on enforcing unsafe buildings. After a heated discussion, the board agreed to table any action on creating an ordinance until more information is available.

Lima Township Hall has a familiar feature back. It’s the township hall tapestry looking more vibrant than it has in many years. Board members took time to thank Bonnie Mulliner for her fine work on the tapestry and shared their gratitude to have it back.
