Lima Township Board approves FY 2021-2022 Budget

By Lisa Carolin

Following a public hearing, the Lima Township Board unanimously approved a series of resolutions for its FY 2021-2022 budget during a meeting via Zoom on March 8.

Money transfers were approved for a road line item for $650 and an elections item for $4,000.

Also approved were resolutions for 2-percent salary increases effective April 1, 2021. Those include supervisor, clerk and treasurer salaries all to be $32,431.27, and trustee salary to be $3,727.56.  A 2-percent increase for hourly and appointed staff was also approved.

The General Appropriations Act resolution was also approved, which includes an Operating Millage Levy of 0.7869 mills and Chelsea Area Fire Authority (CAFA) Special Assessment Retainage at 2.3865 mills. Estimated revenues are $660,000 and estimated expenditures are $660,000.

The annual budget meeting was immediately followed by the monthly board meeting. Trustee Greg McKenzie was approved as the new representative for the Washtenaw Area Value Express (W.A.V.E.), replacing Arlene Bareis, who was thanked for her service. Supervisor Duane Luick is now the alternate representative to W.A.V.E., and those appointments run through December of 2022.

Also discussed was the Lima Depot, which the township would like to lease. Duane Luick said he’s received nine calls about it and has had five showings. His goal is to lease the Lima Depot, which is located at 11506 Jackson Road, by the end of March at a rate of $1,550 a month.

The depot received an insurance appraisal value of $375,000, which members of the board questioned as being high.
