Lima Township Planning Commission OK’s Special Use Permit for Church

By Lisa Carolin

Members of the Chelsea Free Methodist Church will soon have a new location for their church. At the June 28 Lima Township Planning Commission meeting, the church received a special land use approval.

The planning commission had already approved the site plan for the property owned by the church located at 11875 Jackson Road.

In other action, the planning commission unanimously approved both a final site plan and a special land use approval for Kern Auto Sales & Service at 12671 Old US-12. The final site plan must be revised to address comments in both the June 20 engineering reviews and the June 22 township planner’s report that includes a 10-foot setback and landscaping.

Earlier this year, the planning commission recommended to the Lima Township Board amending the zoning ordinance to allow the use of the location for the sale of used cars as well as car repair. The site is an acre-and-a-half, will include a 6,000 square foot steel framed building for a garage, and is located close to I-94.
