Local road projects on tap for Lima Township

By Lisa Carolin

Local road projects for Lima Township were unanimously approved by the Township Board at its April 8 meeting.

Lima Township Supervisor Craig Maier said there is $217,000 in the township’s budget for road work. This year’s projects include two on Lima Center Road, shaping the existing surface as well as applying limestone, and also doing the same on Steinbach Road to Parker Road, and Steinbach Road to Dancer Road.

Maier said the budget should allow for township wide drainage improvements too. He will meet with members of the Washtenaw County Road Commission April 10 to sign contracts.

The board also approved getting road construction drawings of the North Lima Center Road project from Midwest Consulting, not to exceed the cost of $9,000.

Maier said that plans for the new township hall building are progressing. He is in the process of meeting with contractors and is planning to put stakes in the ground to help decide where the building and parking lot will go at the 11516 Jackson Road site, which includes Fire Station No. 2.

In other action, the board unanimously agreed to re-accept the Fiscal Year 2020 budget as amended to show $25,000 Thornton Farms Consent Fees as a liability.

Also approved was $3,000 for the Chelsea Senior Center to support services to Lima Township’s senior residents.
