Although the 2013 CROP Hunger Walk doesn’t take place until Oct. 6, the first organizational meeting for the event will take place on Tuesday, April 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the Faith in Action building, located just inside the north entrance to the Chelsea Community Hospital campus.

“We are meeting at Faith in Action so everyone can see Dia Vale’s quilt,” which is prominently displayed on the wall there, Kathie Gourlay, Chelsea/Dexter CROP Hunger Walk coordinator, wrote in a letter to past participants.

Here’s a link to the story about the quilt.

Larry Conover, the new representative from the CROP Lansing office, will show a 25-minute PBS documentary video about Church World Service’s work around the world, which will be followed by a 5-minute discussion.

Following the discussion, the 2013 walk planning will begin.

“I hope every organization that participated last year will attend and also anyone else who would like to help plan this year’s walk,” Gourlay said in the letter.

This is the first of three meetings the group has each year.

Last year, 12 organizations and 97 walkers participated in the 25th annual Chelsea/Dexter CROP Hunger Walk, and almost $25,000 was raised, and once again, the Chelsea Retirement Community won the Golden Sneaker award for raising the most money per walker.
