Mark Your Calendars: American Legion Winter Carnival Feb. 4-6

The American Legion Post 31 Winter Carnival will take place this year on Feb. 4-6 at the Legion Post, 1700 Ridge Road, in Sylvan Township.

Held the first full weekend in February, the winter weekend offers folks a chance to compete in the annual fishing derby on Friday afternoon, Feb. 4 followed by some card playing during the annual euchre tournament. Gather in the warmth of the Legion Hall for the tournament that begins at 7 p.m. There is a $10 entry fee, and you must be 18 years or older to play.

On Saturday, Feb. 5, start the day with breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon while the annual fishing derby begins at 7 a.m. and lasts until 4 p.m. At night, listen to a band and dance the night away. This year, it’s the band BoVine.

Sunday’s events have been scaled back a bit – there won’t be the kids’ carnival – but you can stop by for breakfast On Feb. 6 from 8 a.m. to noon. The carnival officially ends at 2 p.m.

Food and beverages will be sold all day during the carnival, but no alcohol will be served on Sunday, Feb. 6.

Howard Flintoft, Legion commander, also wanted to remind the community that like last year, the annual July 4 chicken broil fundraiser will take place outside on the Legion property at 1700 Ridge Road in Sylvan Township.
