Matthew Hagood hired as new building trades teacher

The Chelsea Board of Education unanimously approved the hiring of Matthew Hagood as the new building trades teacher for the district on Monday, Aug. 27.

Superintendent of Schools Andy Ingall

With the retirement of John Ruhlig, the open position was advertised both internally, within the district and externally, outside the school district, according to a memo to the School Board from Andy Ingall, superintendent of schools.

“Mr. Hagood’s unique background and professional experience in architectural drafting and construction trades, coupled with his years of experience building positive relationships with students made him a solid fit for the Building Trades Program,” the memo states.

He has a Michigan Secondary Provisional certificate in Technology and design and a Vocational Occupational Education certificate in Vocational Technology.

“He has a variety of experience in the building trades and is a good fit for us,” Ingall told the School Board.

The Eastern Michigan University graduate holds a Bachelor of Science degree in technology, design education and has worked for the Lenawee Intermediate School District as a Project Lead the Way teacher, was a long-term substitute for the West Bloomfield School District and the Saline Area Schools.

In addition, he’s served on the Building Trades Board, Ingall said.
