The 2020 Memorial Day parade, which takes place downtown and ceremony, which takes place in Oak Grove Cemetery has been cancelled to comply with the governor’s Stay Home, Stay Safe executive order.

Despite the cancellation, volunteers, organizers and Chelsea American Legion Post 31 members will attend to the flags on graves in the local cemeteries and folks may still pay their respects to the fallen – while practicing safe distancing guidelines.

“Everyone is encouraged to give thoughts to the fallen even though it cannot be done in a large group this year,” said Craig Maier, financial officer of the Chelsea American Legion.

Howard Flintoft, commander of the legion, said veterans will hold a small private ceremony on Memorial Day that will be videotaped by Randy Lee of RK Studios. And, Chelsea residents will be able to view it later in the day on local cable channel 18.

Organizers of the annual event suggest that folks honor those who gave their lives in their own ways during this somber tribute to the fallen, proudly fly their American flags, and take time to honor those men and women who gave their lives for this country.
