May: Lyme Disease Awareness Month

May is National Lyme Disease Awareness Month.

Lyme disease can effect both humans and animals and the scary truth is that your pet could easily be infected – all it takes is one bite from an infected tick, which may be so small that you never even know it was there.

Washtenaw County has been considered at higher risk for Lyme disease during the last few years and the numbers of positive cases are only growing.

In an effort to prevent the spread of this potentially catastrophic disease, Lane Animal Hospital has partnered with Zoetis, the manufacturer of its lyme vaccination and Simparica, to offer several promotions on the lyme vaccination, tick prevention and diagnostic testing for the month of May.

For dogs who have never had a lyme vaccine, Lane is offering a special for $150, which includes two doses of the lyme vaccination (spaced 3-4 weeks apart), administered by one of our veterinarians or a licensed veterinary technician, and 6 months of Simparica (any size), a monthly chewable tablet which is designed to kill ticks before they are able to spread disease.

The 6 months of Simparica is also eligible for a $15 manufacturer rebate. This promotion has a savings of $100 off the regular cost.

For dogs that have already received a lyme vaccination, our special is $125 and includes one dose of the lyme vaccination to protect your pet for 12 months, administered by one of our veterinarians or a licensed veterinary technician, and 6 months of Simparica (any size), a monthly chewable tablet which is designed to kill ticks before they are able to spread disease.

The 6 months of Simparica is also eligible for a $15 manufacturer rebate. This promotion has a savings of $45 off the regular cost.

Lane is also offering 10-percent off all other tick-related products and in-house diagnostic testing for the month of May. This includes all tick preventive medications and in-house tick-borne disease testing.
