MDOT suspending road work for MIS race Sunday

Good news local NASCAR fans.

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will suspend work and reopen lanes on major state highways surrounding Michigan International Speedway (MIS) for the Pure Michigan 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race on Sunday, Aug. 19.

If you have friends coming from the Jackson area, MDOT will reopen two key bridges in Jackson to provide fans with greater access on race weekend. Those bridges include M-50 (McDevitt Avenue) over US-127 and M-50 (West Avenue) in downtown Jackson.

Although most of us have our secret back road routes to the track, work on most state roads in counties surrounding MIS, will be suspended from 7 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, until 7 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21.

However, several MDOT projects still will have restrictions in place over race weekend and MDOT urges motorists to drive with caution in work zones including on M-52 in Manchester, southbound traffic will be maintained, while northbound traffic will be detoured.

In addition, one lane of traffic is open on M-52 over the River Raisin at Austin Road.

MDOT is also posting MIS race day travel information here and here.
