Meet Chelsea High School’s Class of 2020 Top 10 students

Niko Fannin

Parents: Bart Fannin and Nikki Fannin

He was the captain of the water polo team and also competed on the swim team and track team. He was a member of the Student Council where he proudly served as cabinet treasurer of student council. He will be graduating Summa Cum Laude and received SEC All-Academic Recognition.

He will be attending the University of Michigan in the Actuarial Mathematics program.

My favorite memory is seeing Avengers: Endgame opening night with my friends.

William Scott

Parents: Eric and Julie Scott

He participated in Cross Country, Track, Link Crew and National Honors Society at Chelsea. His favorite extracurricular was Cross Country because of the coaching and work ethic embodied by everyone on the team, both on the course and off it. He was selected for the Chelsea Excellence Award in 2018, and just recently won the Michigan Personal Finance Challenge. He received SEC All-Academic recognition and will be graduating Summa Cum Laude. He was also selected as WXYZ 2020 Brightest & Best Chelsea High School student.

He will be attending the University of Michigan’s College of Engineering in the fall to study mechanical engineering.

Winning back to back X-C state championships in 2017 and 2018 with an amazing group of guys.

Morgan Kurth

Her activities during her senior year included Key Club (vice president), National Honor Society, Girls Cross Country (captain), Girls Track and Field (captain), Winter Running Club, Physics Club (treasurer), and Symphony Orchestra (treasurer). Awards she has received are the Hudson CC Booster Invitational Senior Award, Southeastern Conference Girls Cross Country Sportsmanship Award, Southeastern Conference Girls Cross Country Scholar Athlete Award, CHS Summa Cum Laude, and the CHS Top Dawg Award.

Following graduation, she will be attending Brigham Young University where she will pursue a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree.

My favorite memory from CHS was during my freshman year when my cross country team won the Southeastern Conference Championship.

Rory Krause

Parents: Kerry and Eric Krause

Rory was a 4-year varsity swimmer; 4-year varsity water polo player and 2-year captain; member of Arbor Club for 3 years; junior coach for CAC for 4 years; National Honor Society member; 2-year member of Why You Matter. She will be graduating Summa Cum Laude.

She plans to the University of Michigan to study environmental science and economics.

 

Thomas Kennings

Parents: Valarie and Michael Kennings

During high school, he was proud to have earned his Eagle Scout rank in Boy Scouts. He also takes pride in having competed on the Chelsea football, golf, wrestling, and cross country teams. Music, though, was his main activity. In the past four years, he played with the MSBOA All-State Festival and the Michigan Youth Arts Festival orchestras. He performed with the University of Michigan Youth Symphony Orchestra too, playing Hill Auditorium with them thrice. He received SEC All-Academic Recognition and will be graduating Summa Cum Laude.

Thomas plans on attending the University of Michigan’s College of Engineering next fall. His current interests are in the field of computer science.

The best memory I have from CHS is definitely traveling and performing in China with the Chelsea House Orchestra.

Aidan Delwiche

Aidan Delwiche

Parents: Jean and Michael Delwiche

His activities included being a fiddler and the student representative for the Chelsea House Orchestra, a violinist and the president of the Symphony Orchestra, a build leader for Team 1502 Chelsea Robotics, the Senior Class Treasurer, a student officer for United Way of Chelsea, a Link Leader, as well as an active member of National Honor Society. He also played varsity lacrosse. He will be graduating Summa Cum Laude.

He plans to attend the University of Michigan to study computer science.

My favorite memory – touring China with the Chelsea House Orchestra.

Mallery Bee

Parents: Oscar Bee, Noelle Dronen, and Susan Tamblyn

At Chelsea High, Mallery was yearbook editor, cross country captain and varsity runner, National Honor Society member, MiLead participant, volunteer at SafeHouse center, Student Council Cabinet secretary, Science Olympiad participant, one of the original members of the Civic Action Club, and a mental health council participant/SRSLY collaborator. She received SEC All-Academic recognition and will be graduating Summa Cum Laude.

She plans to take a gap year in order to au pair in Spain.

My favorite memory – taking desk naps with my co-copy editor Katie Moore.

William Fredenberg

William Fredenberg

Parents: Paul and Alison Fredenberg

While at Chelsea high School, he participated in cross country, water polo, track and field, Quiz Bowl, Science Olympiad, Arbor Club, Chelsea Senior Center Woodcarving Club and the National Honor Society. He also earned his distinguished Eagle Scout rank. He is a 2020 National Merit Scholar and a 2019 Michigan All-state quiz bowl member. He received SEC All- Academic recognition and will be graduating Summa Cum Laude.

After graduating, he will serve a two-year church mission in Milan, Italy and will afterward study biomedical engineering at Harvard College.

My favorite memory – winning 3rd place in the regional science Olympiad tournament sophomore year with a drastically outnumbered team of only seven students.

Olivia Prodin

Parents: Robin and Keith Prodin

At Chelsea High School, she participated in Interact Club (president), Arbor Club, marching band, Link Crew, National Honor Society, CHS Swim (captain), and CHS tennis. During her time on the swim team, she earned All-State and All-Conference and was an MHSAA Scholar Athlete Award Finalist. She earned her academic letter each year. She will be graduating Summa Cum Laude.

After graduation, she plans on attending the University of Michigan.

My favorite memory has been breaking all three relay varsity records over my four years with the girl’s swim team.

Joseph Norwood

Parents: Tim and Julie Norwood

While at Chelsea High School, he was active in Cross Country and was a CHS track captain, Chelsea Robotics build head, Back-to-back XC State Champion, research assistant at the Alford Lab, cellist of Symphony Orchestra, Hometown Holiday’s Chamber Orchestra, Chelsea House Orchestra, Link Crew leader, National Honor Society, McDonald’s Crew Member. He also earned his Eagle Scout Boy Scout ranking. He was awarded All-State XC Runner, Academic All-State XC, Calc-ey Award, AP Scholar with Distinction, and a National Merit Commended Scholar. He received SEC All-Academic recognition and will be graduating Summa Cum Laude.

He will serve a two-year mission through the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Brazil and then will attend Princeton University.

My favorite memory – every day in my three years of physics.

    Couldn’t help noticing that 6 of the top 10 were Cross-Country runners.
    Hard work pays off!
